In Niigata Institute of Technology (NIIT), research focusing on regional "wind" issues has been conducted by using one of the largest wind tunnel facilities in Japan since the university's establishment. The outputs of the research have been used to evaluate the wind environment around actual buildings, such as Toki Messe. Along with the research using the wind tunnel, we have been conducting research on the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which has been attracting attention as a new analysis tool for fluid dynamics, to wind engineering, and our research results have attracted worldwide attention. Based on these achievements, the Wind and Fluid Engineering Research Center was established in NIIT in 2017.
Now, our target is not limited to “wind”, but it covers all fluid motions. The behavior of wind and other fluid flows is very complex and difficult to grasp. Therefore, by understanding their characteristics and controlling them appropriately, it is possible to create new ideas and values, as well as security and safety in various aspects of engineering from "manufacturing" to "urban development". Our center was established to serve as a regional research core for solving problems related to wind and fluid flow and for promoting the education of human resources who have mastered such skills. We hope that our equipment, knowledge, and experience are actively used for everyone.
